CE7003 - ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL MASONRY


 

Course Objective                                                                                                                                                                                  

 

  • To enable civil engineering students to comprehend the fundamental principles of masonry behavior and to apply them in to the analysis and design of masonry structures;
  • To provide the students with an understanding of the mechanics of masonry elements subjected to various load effects including bending, shear, and axial forces;
  • To discuss the code principles of masonry structures and in turn to develop engineering judgment to design safe and efficient masonry structures, especially from the viewpoint of seismic behavior;
  • To assess the current state of construction practice for masonry structures in Turkey in accordance with the available building databases;
  • To provide introductory background on the special topics regarding structural masonry; such as reinforced masonry construction and historical masonry structures.
